White heads are small white spots that are raised and are caused by the accumulation of sebum or oil in the pores. Tips on Buying a Burr Coffee Grinder

December 18th, 2011
Comments Off

Grinding your own coffee is a simple and inexpensive way to improve the flavor, aroma, and nuances of the coffee that you are drinking in your home.  It doesn’t take any technical know-how or highly expensive equipment – it takes some equipment, well, to be fair it takes one thing: a conical burr grinder.

Which One Should I Buy?

That’s a great question – and the final decision is always up to you.  What do you need?  How serious do you want to get?  There are lots of different conical burr grinders that you can buy and a number of fantastic companies that develop seriously highfalutin equipment.  So to keep things simple, here are some basic tips that you can use when shopping.

  • Find a grinder that has an automatic safety shut off.  This, basically, is designed for when the bean hopper or the ground coffee chamber is not properly in place.  What it does is keep the motor from turning on until everything is put where it is supposed to be.  I hate to admit how useful these are because it implies how many messes I made before realizing I should find a grinder with this kind of functionality.  Oh well, now I buy grinders with safety switches so when I try to send whole beans flying through the air the grinder won’t let me.
  • Make sure it has conical burrs and not blades.  This is simple – it will always specifically say if it is a conical burr grinder or a blade grinder.  You want conical burrs.
  • Find out how many adjustment settings it has.  Personally, I prefer a grinder that has a lot of settings (20 settings or more) because I want to be able to grind for a vast array of different brew methods.  You may feel similar.  However, if you want simplicity and consistency than a grinder with just a few settings can be a great option.

If you follow those three criteria when shopping for a conical burr grinder you will be sure to find one that satisfies the needs of your home.  If you have any questions or need advice in finding the right burr coffee grinder you can visit my blog at www.vvlgar.com for more information.

Happy Brewing.

3 Top Juicing Recipes for Beginners

November 3rd, 2011
Comments Off

When it comes to juicing recipes, some are good for beginners, some aren’t and some recipes are downright horrible (or at least the beginners thinks so).

But since juicing is such a healthy habit, it’s not worth getting frustrated with it due to a bad recipe.

If you’re interested in juicing, try the 3 juicing recipes below as they are great for beginners. They focus on the sweeter vegetables with some fruit mixed in. This makes them more palatable and enjoyable for the newcomer to juicing.

1. Tropical Sunrise

  • 4 carrots
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 2 apples

This is one of best juicing recipes for beginners to get started with. It’s easy to make and it tastes fantastic. Whenever I see people buying fresh juice at the store, they always get this one. It’s not without its benefits either; the carrot adds vitamin A, the celery adds potassium and the apples improve brain function.

It’s a very fruity juice, so if the sweetness becomes too much, try using only one apple.

2. Ginger Delight

  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 3 apples
  • 1.5 cm of fresh ginger

Ginger is delightful in juicing recipes and this baby is no exception. Ginger is great for things like nausea, motion sickness and anxiety. If you’re feeling nervous, perhaps before an interview or speech, try drinking this juice. The celery and ginger combine to create a powerful cancer-defence system. One of the most interesting benefits of ginger is that it is a natural painkiller.

Once again, the apples are in this recipe to sweeten it up and add their own benefits.

3. Citrus Splash

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 grapefruit
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 kiwi fruit

For the Citrus Splash, you want to peel each ingredient. This juicing recipe is sweet and summery and it’s a great juice to share with friends and family. Along with loads of vitamin C, citrus is also a mood enhancer, stimulating the brain to produce feel-good chemicals and induce a peaceful feeling of wellbeing.

If possible, for each of these juicers get organic produce. It’s cleaner and free of pesticides. However, if organic is unavailable for whatever reason, go ahead and use ordinary fruits and vegetables as they will still do you a load of good.

Use these juicing recipes to help you out in your quest to be healthy. They’ll get off to a good start and further down the track, you can move to recipes which might not taste as great, but have more benefits.

One of the many reasons why most people prefer to buy the all-new single auger style juicing machine from Omega is that it is very efficient. The Omega VRT350 HD vertical masticating juicer allows the users to extract the maximum quality and nutrients from any kind of fruit or vegetable, because it operates at a very low speed of 80 RPM. This means that no heat and oxidation build up during the process of juice extraction. This means that the juice that it extracts is sure to be very healthy. Also, maximum amount of juice is extracted even from a minimum amount of produce, because it works on a dual-stage juicing. The produce is crushed first, and then before the pulp is ejected, it will undergo the second pressing stage to ensure that maximum amount of juice is extracted. This means that using such juicing machine can also be very economical.

Another reason why most consumers prefer to invest in this juicing machine is that this is very heavy duty. This is durable enough to last daily and long term usage. As a matter of fact, the “heart” of this Omega juicer, the Ultem screen, is belieevd to be 8 times much stronger and more durable compared to the common juicing screens that are regularly used with most juicing machines. Thus, this is ideal for those people who are very conscious about their health and who want to make tehir own fresh fruits and vegetable beverage regularly — even more than once every day.

Thus, invetsing in Omega VRT350 HD can be very worthwhile. Potato Pancakes Made Easy

October 2nd, 2011
Comments Off

Potato pancake recipes are a bit different from traditional pancake recipes. A traditional recipe is predominantly milk and flour with eggs and a leavening agent. A potato pancake is mostly potato and is served as a savory dish, but it can also taste good drizzled with maple syrup.

Save Time

Usually a potato pancake will be made up of shredded potatoes. You have to wash the potato, shred it manually or process it in the food processor, and then squeeze out all the excess water. It also takes longer to cook because the potato starts out raw. While these types of potato pancakes are super tasty, they aren’t all that easy.

To save time, use leftover mashed potatoes. They will come out a little bit differently, but they will taste great and be much quicker to make. If you have a bunch of leftover mashed potatoes that you don’t know what to do with, serve it for your next breakfast.

How to Make Easy Potato Pancakes

Put your potato pancakes in a bowl large enough to stir in. You can leave it in its container if it’s easy to stir in. For about every 2 cups or so of mashed potatoes, stir in 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of flour, and seasonings. If your potatoes are already seasoned, you can skip the extra seasoning. If they are plain, add some grated onion or leave them plain and dust with powdered sugar when they are done.

Heat up a pan with about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of oil in it to about medium high heat. Meanwhile, form the potato pancakes into small, fat pancakes. Don’t make them as thin as regular pancakes, but don’t make them too thick either. When the oil is hot, add the pancakes and fry on each site for about 2 to 4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. It won’t take as long as regular potato pancakes because you only need to heat up the potato and cook the eggs. Enjoy with eggs and sausage or bacon.

September 29th, 2011

There are three juicer types (all producing healthy juice drinks) that are available in the market for commercial and home use. The types are centrifugal juicers, masticating juicers, and triturating juicers. Here, you shall find a list of some of the best masticating juicers available today.

Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Commercial Masticating Juicer: this $299.00 masticating juicer is built for heavy duty tasks. In fact, it is one of the most powerful juicers today as proven by the great critic reviews it has gained. An Auto Pulp-Ejection system is equipped with this Omega product in order to produce juice continuously. Furthermore, the 80 RPM rotating speed is slow enough to reduce foaming, clogging, and over-heating which destroys the shelf life of the juice extract and the nutrients and minerals they should contain.

Kuvings HMPD3530U Multi-Purpose Masticating Juicer: for a much cheaper price of $198.88, this 170 watt juicer is such a good deal. The powerful motor and the microscopic juice extraction technology give high yields. Additionally, the slower motor speed of the machine preserve the nutritional elements of the juice making it not only more delicious but also healthier. It is also one of the quietest working masticating juicers available today.

Lexen Electric Healthy Juicer: healthy juice drinks could be produced very easily with this $159.95 Lexen product. Its speed of 76 RPM and its design is intended to juice wheatgrass, fruits, and vegetables. The preservation of nutrients, phytochemicals, and other essential healthy juice contents is what this product ensures. Furthermore, the 2.63 Horsepower motor can even produce soy milk, baby food, sorbets, desserts, and pastas.

If you want a cheaper juicer then try centrifugal juicers. However, if a juicer type that can produce high yields and process a wider variety of foods then masticating juicers are the right choice. They will definitely cost you more than centrifugal juicers, but you will get a better, fresher juice in the end!

My Favorite Wheat-Free Foods

September 28th, 2011
Comments Off

I discovered I was very sensitive to wheat/gluten late last year.  For someone who has been devouring pizza, pasta, and sandwiches their whole life,  I was kind of in shock.  I was thinking there was no way I could give up gluten.  I honestly thought it would be easier to deal with the digestive issues and side pain than it would be to give up all those wonderful foods.  Eventually, I decided I would take on the gluten problem as a challenge and find out what I should be eating.  I will go over my favorite gluten free items.

My favorite gluten-free bread is easily Udi’s .  They make gluten-free white and wheat bread, hot dog buns, hamburger buns, bagels and more.  I can now make my own healthy deli sandwiches for lunch every day.  It really makes a difference in the overall quality and taste of a sandwich when you control exactly what is going into it.  I don’t have to worry about eating something that contains gluten this way either.

Some foods that are naturally gluten free that I eat all the time are eggs, steak, chicken, salmon, rice, and fruits and vegetables.  Always make sure the meat isn’t breaded before ordering it.  I recommend cooking at home most meals because it saves money, is healthier, and you can control what goes in your food and what doesn’t as I mentioned earlier.

Once you figure out the foods that do and do not have gluten, it becomes so much easier to stick with the diet and not accidentally consume something bad for you.  Unfortunately, from time to time when I am dining out I will eat something I am not supposed to and pay for it.  That is why it is so important to ask questions when you are at a restaurant.  I grill the waiters on everything in the dish so that I can be sure it is wheat-free.  I highly recommend you do the same.

A person needs to spend some time and put a little effort in order to construct a cheap chicken coop. Cheap chicken coops are an extremely suitable option for people who love raising chickens but are not able to afford expensive coops for their chickens. One can also search for coop building guides which give comprehensive and simple directions for building inexpensive but good chicken coops.

Unique Wine Racks for Your Home

September 19th, 2011

When purchasing a home for the first time, the new home owner will need to find creative ways to furnish their new property if they are on a tight budget. In fact, whenever funds are low, it seems like consumers need to find unique solutions to their needs. One of the best ways for home owners to cut down on the costs of home renovations, home decor items, and other home essentials is to create their own unique pieces, perform their own home improvement tasks, or even dress up an existing piece of furniture to fit their new decor. There is now a great variety of home improvement and interior design advice for home owners that wish to perform these tasks on their own time.

This industry is now called the DIY market, which stands for Do It Yourself. Many first time home owners like to commemorate their first property purchase with a nice bottle of wine from the wine rack they purchased from a discount retailer. While this occasion is definitely a cause for celebration, the home owners should do their best to invest in quality wine racks that allow them to store their wine properly. Although most recreational wine samplers do not realize this, there is actually an entire methodology that exists on the proper care and storage of wine.

However, home owners that wish to include unique wine racks in their new property design will only need to learn a few basics of the proper keeping and storage of fine wine. For instance, when storing wine, it is essential for the home owners to keep the spirits out of direct sunlight. When exposed to sunlight, the wine will heat up considerably within its glass casing, which can lead to the wine spoiling. The exposure to sunlight or heat will also change the natural pressure within the bottle, which can lead to leaking through the cork, a phenomenon that is called “breathing.” In order to keep their wine fresh until they are ready to consume it, the home owners should invest in wine racks that allow the bottles to be stored at an angle, with the entire interior side of the cork being covered by the wine. This will allow the home owners to keep their spirits fresh, figuratively and literally.

When shopping for proper wine racks, the home owners may find that these furnishings can be fairly expensive. Thankfully, home owners can actually make their own wine rack that will allow them to properly store their bottles by using some scrapped wooden pieces from a local construction site, a large drilling tool, some high-gloss paint in the color of their choice, and a lot of creativity. This custom wine rack project works by hanging strong boards across the wall of a kitchen or dining room at a 45 degree angle from the perpendicular plane of the seam between ceiling and wall. After these boards have been drilled with 1.5″ holes to accommodate the necks of the bottles, they are attached to the wall at this angle.

Then, the home owner just needs to place their favorite bottles of wine within the attached holes, which allows for a unique home decor element while also keeping the wine fresh! Once the new home owner finishes their first DIY project, they will see how easy and cost-effective it is to make their property beautiful on their own, without the high costs of personal interior designers or general contracting services. Although DIY projects can be rewarding and easy on the home owner’s budget, the home owners should also realize that any alterations to the plumbing or electrical systems of their home will most certainly require the expertise of a licensed professional.

September 7th, 2011
Comments Off

A good chicken and rice casserole recipe can serve a family for hundreds of meals. Despite this, any good recipe that is used too often can become boring. It is easy to prevent your recipe from getting stale or overdone by making a few simple changes.

CHINESE CHICKEN AND RICE CASSEROLE

Many people love Chinese food. Try adding some Chinese influence to your favorite casserole recipe. Chicken and rice are two ingredients that are abundant in American Chinese cuisine, making it easy to change things up while leaving the two foundational ingredients the same. Try seasoning your casserole with a thick soy or oyster sauce and adding a can of stir-fry vegetables. Substitute pan-fried lo mein noodles instead of the usual egg noodles. For an interesting texture, try using sticky rice instead of regular white rice. Integrate your favorite aspects of Chinese cuisine into this dish and make it your own. Although it is Indian and not Chinese, many people find that a good chicken curry recipe suits their palate well.

ADD A CHINESE SIDE DISH

Since the rice will already be in the dish, there is no need to put it on the side. Instead, consider making some vegetable potstickers or Chinese dumplings and putting them on the side. Serve them boiled or fried to meet your preference. If you wish, serve them with a dish of sweet and sour sauce for dipping, or simply serve them plain. These will make a great complement to your Chinese chicken and rice casserole recipe.

Your casserole experimentation does not have to end at Chinese food. You can expand and make a casserole that reflects other Asian cultures, such as Japanese or Korean food. You could make an Italian casserole or Spanish. You could focus on a certain flavor and complement that in the side dish. The possibilities are endless with a good casserole.

This herb has other uses that are not as well known, yet certainly very beneficial. Other benefits of the aloe vera juice are improved digestion, circulation, detoxification and pain relief.

The aloe vera gel is obtained from the leaves of the aloe plant and can be applied topically or added to a drink. Aloe Vera contains numerous minerals and vitamins, including vitamin C, B complex, copper, iron, manganese, potassium and calcium. It is also safe to drink daily – as a matter of fact, experts recommend drinking at least two glasses of aloe vera juice each day for optimal benefits.

Here are some of the most popular health benefits of aloe vera juice:

(1) Aloe Vera stimulates colonic irrigation, the process of removing feces and toxins from the colon and intestinal tract. This includes bacteria and waste from food. This debris can block the intestinal lining and block nutrients from being absorbed. Studies show that drinking aloe vera juice regularly for several weeks can help break down waste and improve the irrigation of the colon. It also regulates the production of stomach acids, thus preventing digestive problems such as ulcers, acid indigestion, colitis and irritable-bowel syndrome (IBS).

(2) Aloe Vera juice is beneficial to people with rheumatoid arthritis thanks to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to relieve joint pain, reduce stiffness and improve joint movement. It also contains mucopolysaccharides, which are essential sugars for basic cell regeneration. This assists the process of rebuilding muscle tissue and damaged cells. Its cooling effect also relieves pain and inflammation.

(3) A highly valuable part in the juice of aloe is acemannan, which is believed to boost production of white blood cells. This assists the body to fight bacteria and viruses and prevents the growth of cancer cells. Currently it is being studied for possible use against diseases caused by low blood counts, breast and ovarian cancer and leukemia.

When buying Aloe products it is necessary to select those consistent with GMP and avoid the ones which are loaded with artificial additives.

As the perfect end to a nuptial celebration, the confection is always designed to make a grand final gesture. Gorgeous wedding cakes come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes – some are wildly exotic while others are comfortably classy – and should always showcase the newly married duo in some way.

Gorgeous wedding cakes are often a part of the most romantic part of the celebration. The slicing of the cake signifies the new journey of the happy couple. For this reason, the cake must be a confectionary masterpiece of the highest standards. Whether it be classic vanilla with a chic butter-cream icing or whether it be sultry chocolate with a decadent fudge ganache, the cake should always be the ‘piece de resistance’ of the event.

A wedding cake topper is an accessory that no marital pastry should be without. Wedding cakes monograms are becoming the most popular crowning glory for the sweet ending of the wedding party. These simple yet effective decorations are elegant and sophisticated without seeming overbearing.

Wedding cakes monograms are created to suit various stylistic niches. They can either be sparkling silver letters designed to stand atop the cake or they can be sheer acrylic shapes with the happy couple’s name emblazoned on the front. The bridal pair will always have the opportunity to choose from an impressively large variety of different materials and colors. The monograms can also be partially decorated with twinkling crystals, if a little extra pizzazz is needed. In the end, personal taste is the order of the day.

As with all other decorative areas of the wedding, couples are encouraged to take their time in making a decision. The cake topper should work well with the cake to create an overall effect of cohesion. The cake and its decoration should appear as one carefully bonded unit and in this way represent the unbreakable union of the newlyweds.

What do You Know About the Features on a Smoothie Maker

The big question you need to answer when you are buying a new smoothie maker is what do you understand about the various features on a smoothie maker. As different smoothie makers come with different features, you can expect them to be priced differently. Buying a smoothie maker with the necessary features will help you to save some extra money.

If you are looking for a basic smoothie maker, then you can consider the back to basic smoothie maker. They basically comes without any other features but just a small and compact body. In addition, you will find that this type of smoothie maker is excellent as a personal blender with their small capacity.

When you are choosing a large smoothie maker, which is also known as an advance smoothie maker, you will find a load of extra features that will make your smoothie making experience much easier. When you have a bigger smoothie blender, you need to know that they come with a higher wattage motor. A more powerful motor is necessary for a big smoothie maker so that it can generate more power to the cutting blades to blend a larger serving of smoothies in one blend. However, when your motor becomes too powerful, you should make sure that your smoothie maker has a speed control that can allow you to switch to low speeds or high speeds.

Why do you need a low speed setting? This is very important for cutting the smaller and softer fruits so that you can still taste some of their texture. If not, then the powerful motor will basically squash everything into a fruit juice rather than a smoothie.

There are many different places where you can buy smoothie makers. However, if you are looking for a good deal, then the best place I’ll recommend is Amazon. I bought my smoothie maker and two coffee makers at a forty percent discount. You need to check them out.

Chlorophyll is the pigment in plants that is used to turn light from the sun into energy that the plant can use to grow. This is vital for life on the planet. By using a masticating juicer, we can extract liquid from green vegetables which we can drink to get this nutritious chlorophyll into our bodies. There are many different juicers that are perfect for this function including the Green Star GS-1000 and the Omega J8006 Nutrition Center.

If drinking the juice of vegetables like spinach or kale does not sound particularly appetizing, you are not alone. The fact of the matter is that we do not have to drink straight green juice to derive the benefits. All that we have to do is to add in some greens to the juices that we make. So if only 20% of a juice is made up of green vegetables, this is perfectly acceptable. The thing is that a carrot juice with a few greens added will still taste pretty good. Excellent health and a tasty juice can go hand in hand.

There are loads of benefits that we can get from drinking green juices. Below are just some of them:

  • Chlorophyll helps us to detox. It is useful in chelating heavy minerals from our bodies.
  • Chlorophyll effectively delivers oxygen to our cells and tissue throughout our body.
  • Chlorophyll may have an anti-carcinogenic action by reducing the ability of carciongens to bind with our DNA.
  • Chlorophyll helps us to deoderize from the inside and can improve our breath and body odor.

There benefits are very real and even just one of them would make it worth our while trying to increase the amount of green vegetables we consume. The fact that so many benefits can accrue simply from drinking the juice of green vegetables is amazing and makes it something that we should all strive to do if we want to enjoy the best of health.

Your kitchen countertops are the primary area of your kitchen for meal preparation but, more often than not, they are the kitchen’s primary area for clutter. Everything from newspapers to school papers to junk mail seems to end up on the countertop. But, if you want to run an efficient and stylish looking kitchen, it certainly makes sense to keep your kitchen countertops clear of all clutter and replace that clutter with sensible and practical storage solutions.

After you have made that decision to keep the clutter off of the countertops, take a really good look at how beautiful they look. Perhaps you invested big money in a slab of granite that was custom made for your counter. Or maybe you are a DIYer and decided to pour your own concrete countertop in the shade that matches your existing kitchen décor. No matter what the circumstances are, if you accent your countertops with some attractive kitchen canister sets, you may find that not only does your kitchen look nicer, but it also has been made more practical. Instead of having to dig deep into your cabinets for a 5 or 10 pound bag of flour or sugar, all of your commonly-used dry goods will be right at your fingertips in the canisters. Your options for materials include ceramic, wood, stainless steel, glass, aluminum, pewter, or copper. And the styles are off the charts as far as variety is concerned. Glass is an attractive option in any kitchen due to the fact that it easily fits in with any décor and it gives you instant recognition as far as what dry good is in what container.

Another stylish kitchen countertop storage solution is a kitchen utensil holder. This is a single container that will allow you to store on your countertop your regularly-used hand items like spatulas, ladles, metal serving spoons, or wooden forks. You won’t have to be searching all of your drawers or cabinets for kitchen items when you need them. They also come in a variety of materials similar to the canister sets.

So, if you really want your kitchen to be a showpiece, start off with your countertops. Remove the clutter, and add some stylish storage, and you’ll be happy to show off your sparkling countertops.
