Why do Crafts Need to Be Creative

July 20th, 2011
Comments Off

When people talk about crafts they are not necessarily talking about creative crafts. What crafts often means to teachers and to parents is one and the same. Let us look through the web for a project that we can do to commemorate the holiday or season we are in now. They usually pick a project that some adult has though of, made a model of and put up on the web. The children then copy this project which is why I tend to call these type of projects, copy cat arts and crafts.

Creative crafts on the other hand are crafts that actually teach kids to think. It is so important for crafts to be creative because children today are generally not taught to think. They go to traditional public schools that teach the teachers to spoon feed the children all of the material they need to know to spit back on a test. This makes the children robotic and they don’t know how to think. The copycat cat crafts does the same thing, it makes kids into robot.

There are so many creative crafts that teachers and parents can do with their kids that is not copycat crafts. There are loads of paper mache ideas, decoupage ideas, jewelry making ideas and many, many other ideas in crafts that are creative and allow the children not only to think but to develop their own initiative and expand their creativity. One of the reasons that adults may not want to look into these creative type of crafts is because they tend to look  bit messy. Many adults don’t realize that young children are supposed to make messy crafts since they are young children and that is what they are capable of at those ages. If they allow children the space to create what they are capable of then as they grown their crafts projects will look a lot less messy.

Can Woodwork Projects Benefit High School Students?

November 24th, 2010
Comments Off

High school kids have a tendency to get into trouble. Can woodworking projects for high school keep them out of trouble? When reading an article by Mary Lisa Boose entitled ‘Knock on Wood’, I wondered if this was indeed one possible solution to an age old problem. The article describes four high school students taking a woodworking class at Ohio’s Norwalk High School. Each of the students – Ryan Ziemke, Johnie Wilcox, Eric Benton and Hannah Duncan have a different perspective on the benefits they derived from their woodworking training.

Although the school offers advanced woodworking classes, students have to start with easy woodworking in industrial arts classes. From this foundation they then work their way up. Chris Jackson, one of the teachers, says that he has noticed that the students become more confident and critical of their work over the years. The result of this is that they start paying more attention to detail, not only in the woodworking classes, but in general.

Ryan Ziemke, who is a student in one of Norwalk High’s sections of advanced woodworking classes, completed a project consisting of a small cedar chest with finger joints. Although he will not be pursuing woodworking as a career but plans to study marketing at Kent State University, Ryan feels that the skills he has gained through woodworking will stay with him for the rest of his life. Making mistakes and having to go back and correct them has taught him patience. More patience was required in ensuring that the finger joints (interlocking joints at the corner of a piece) used in the construction of the chest fit together perfectly.
The same cedar chest with finger joints was also manufactured by Johnie Wilcox. According to Johnie, the activity involved in woodworking has been good for him as he does not like sitting still in classes. He may get restless in for instance a history class whereas he is able to pay attention to detail in his woodworking projects. This has pointed him to investigate more physically active occupational directions.

Eric Benton completed a trough-style bookcase for his final project. Benton passionately describes the deep satisfaction that he feels when he has created something out of bare wood. According to him, woodworking will always be a part of his life, although he does not plan to do it as a career. Eric has plans to become a youth pastor, and teaching woodworking skills to a church youth group is just one possibility of how he could apply what he has learnt here later on.

Hannah Duncan decided on doing a very ambitious project – a roll-top desk. She feels that woodworking allows her to create with her hands and this for her means taking a break from intellectual learning. Woodworking therefore allows her ‘get out of her head’ not being absorbed in compulsive thought but rather to be in the present moment. This highlights the spiritual benefits that can be derived from woodworking.

These four Ohio high school students have each taken unique benefits from their woodworking class. There is no doubt that it has been beneficial to each of them albeit in different ways, and could do the same for many others. Although specific woodworking projects for high school students were mentioned here, there are many more articles that are suitable for this level of skill and expertise.

Popular New Dolls – Monster High

November 20th, 2010
Comments Off

Barbie and Bratz dolls need to move over for a new set of dolls that are taking over the toy stores. Young girls are absolutely crazy over Monster High dolls. These dolls are definitely not your average dolls as they feature some unusual characters that are reminding girls that it is okay to be different.

The Monster High dolls are based off horror movie monsters such as Dracula and Frankenstein. They are the offspring of these monsters who attend a special high school just for monsters. Some of the main characters for this new series of dolls include Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Cleo de Nile, and Clawdeen Wolf.

These dolls are for from scary monsters though. They feature hip and chic outfits in the latest styles and have some fun and funky hair. For example the Frankie Stein Monster High doll has a plaid dress with black platform boots along with a funky black bag with skulls. She also features black and white striped hair as well as light green skin. She takes after her father Frankenstein though and has two electricity bolts on her neck. All of the dolls have unique faces with large eyes and bright lips that make them stand out.

The Monster High dolls are catching on so much that they are even thinking about releasing an animated television series based on the dolls. The website for Monster High gets thousands of hits a day and there is even a book being released based on the dolls.

It seems that Mattel has hit a homerun with these new dolls that first hit the market in the summer of 2010. They are currently one of the best-selling dolls in the stores as well as online. In fact, some of the dolls are even being sold at certain stores. We’ll have to wait and see how long the popularity last, but if you have young girl you can bet she will be asking for one of these dolls soon.

Fresh Flowers for Centerpieces

November 15th, 2010
Comments Off

Creating beautiful centerpieces for any occasion is fun, and it isn’t hard at all. Whether you are creating wedding reception centerpieces or you want to dress up your dining room table for a nice family dinner, using fresh cut flowers will make your tables beautiful and will give off a wonderful aroma. On top of that, you can enjoy the fresh flowers for days to come on your table or anywhere in your house.

Before you can choose just the right flowers, you need to take everything into account. For example, if you need the flowers for your wedding reception, what time of year are you having the wedding? What are your wedding colors? What kind of flowers will you have in your bouquet? Most importantly, what flowers do you love the most? You need to take all of these things into consideration when you head to the flower shop, especially for very big occasions. Different flowers are blooming and available in different seasons, and you should coordinate your flowers with the colors you are going after and your own personal tastes.

Are you simply looking for beautiful foliage for your dining room table? To avoid seasonal obstacles, and to save money, your best choice is to look through your own garden. If you have flowers, cut a bouquet of your own. Don’t cut flowers from someone else’s garden without their permission. In the winter, you won’t have this luxury of getting flowers if you live in a very cold and snowy climate, but you can use evergreen tree branches, pine cones, etc. They have a very winter theme. For the fall, there are flowers, but you can also use leaves, gourds, pumpkins, etc.

Be sure to use a pretty and appropriately matching table cloth and dishes for your tables. This will help to tie the whole look together. Enjoy the flowers, and most of all, enjoy your special occasion.

You might have considered shopping on eBay to get your shopping done. With Christmas approaching rapidly and the mad rush to find the top Christmas toys for the kids, sites like eBay are tempting to check out as alternatives to a trip to the shopping mall. If you are unfamiliar with eBay, or with shopping online, then you might be reluctant to buy things this way, but the fact is, that on eBay, there are literally thousands if not millions of successful auctions made every day, with very little dispute or complaint.

Indeed once you have participated in a few successful online auctions and have gotten a taste for the whole auction experience on the eBay site, then you might discover that you do not like shopping any other way. Some of the advantage of buying on eBay, and other online stores for that matter, is that there is no need to wait in long lines to get to the checkout, or to even leave your house at all. You can shop in your pyjamas if you like and no one will care.
Through sites like eBay and Amazon, you will find one of the best ways of researching the top 10 toys for Christmas when Christmas shopping for your children. Needful Tools for Drywall

November 12th, 2010
Comments Off

There are a number of drywall tools that are required for all kinds of drywall installation jobs. Drywall is quickly becoming a favorite for many people and there are hardly any plaster walls needed these days. Drywall has been replacing the plaster work for so many years now that it’s almost impossible to find a plaster indoor these days. This material is very beneficial for all kinds of building indoors from commercial to residential buildings and even for some industrial settings. This is an immensely viable kind of wall material that is reliable and durable in all weather conditions. The drywall is generally placed in a way that it creates a separation for insulation and wiring and is placed over metal or wooden studs. Whether it is for a home residence or a business workplace, drywall is one of the most useful wall installations that have ever been in use. Drywall is also known as sheetrock and can come in a variety of lengths and thickness and even width so that it can suit just about any living or work area. Of course that has no implication on what kind of tools you need and just about any drywall installation will require some basic tools.

Some of the more important types of tools for drywall installation include drywall taping tools and some kind of cutting tools. You will also need various tools for the handling and actual installation of drywall. Important tools on the list that are needed for the installation are fasteners. Fasteners are meant to hold the drywall in a specific place and these can be hammered into place with the help of a specialized drywall hammer. This kind of hammer is very long and thin in shape so it is very different from the usual kind of hammer. The head of this hammer is also waffled and comes with a very flat kind of back so that it can also be used for different kinds of prying that might be required. Drywall nails come in different sizes and are made for all kinds of different drywall thicknesses. From longer nails to some as small as a half of an inch, different nail sizes are applicable for the varied sizes of drywall so you can buy one that you think will go with the drywall that you have. You will also need screw gun. The screw gun is an automated item that you can rent or buy for your own self if you think you are going to be doing this professionally.

You will also need several measuring drywall tools like retractable tape measure and metal t-squares that ensure very accurate measuring and cutting. The actual cutting can be done with the help of a utility knife. You will also need the right kind of drywall finishing tools that can help you give a nice and professional look to the overall finish of the drywall.

Trimming Candles for Candle Holders

November 5th, 2010
Comments Off

It is an unfortunate reality that many candles are not shaped for different candle holders. There are so many different shapes of holders and candles that it is not uncommon to wind up with a candle holder that is much too big for your candle. Trimming candles to fit into holders may seem like a simple task, but it can in fact be difficult to get it just right. If you trim off too much, the candle will not sit properly. The same is true if you do not trim off enough. You will have to find the happy medium to have a perfect setting for your candle, which can make or break a look.

First, measure the inside of the candle holder. This can be difficult at times. The easiest way to do this is to use a miniature measuring tape of the type that hang on key chains. If you do not have one of these available, a cloth measuring tape used in sewing may work as well. After measuring the inside of the holder, measure the outside of the base of the candle. Measure at the very bottom of the candle, where it should meet the bottom of the candle holder for a proper seating.

After you have measured carefully, you can begin trimming. Use a small, sharp knife such as a pocket knife or a paring knife. Trim down the base of the candle in a circular motion, taking off very thin strips as you go along. Measure carefully after each round of the base to make sure you have not taken off too much or too little. When you think you have it right, try to put the candle into the holder. If it doesn’t work, you’ll know to trim off a bit more. This is tedious and time consuming, but it is the only way to truly and carefully fit a candle into a candle holder properly.

Traxxas Rustler Monster Trucks – RC Style Fun

November 3rd, 2010
Comments Off

When you are choosing a monster truck in the RC world to be your first radio controlled vehicle then it can be very confusing to try and sift through all of the technical words and acronyms, especially if you are new to the RC world. Technically, it is almost up there with the real world, with RC fans needing to understand simple drivetrains, slip differentials, pinion gears, and other mechanical parts that compose of a RC trucks engine system.

But what if all you want to do is to go to the shop, buy a product, and then take it out to your back garden for a quick race? For people who don’t want to get too much into the technical side of things there are RTR kits, which are termed Ready to Run, which simply means that all you have to do it take the unit out of the box and connect the battery and you can drive away to your heart’s content.

One thing that you will have to decide if you wish to pursue these RTR kits is to decide upon a cheaper but slower brushed model or a fast brushless model that will most likely cost at least double the price. Brushless models do last much longer though, so even though the initial price may be cheaper after many months of use it can actually be more cost effective to go for a brushless model in the first place.

Model wise, you have your Traxxas Stampede, Traxxas Rustler, Traxxas Slash, and so on, and there are many more from other RC vehicle makers. Traxxas is a good company to start out on since there are so many of their products out there in the wild. Out of all of their products, the Traxxas Stampede is the one that is most often recommended to beginners simply because they are so good for the price.

What Are Sing-A-Ma-Jig Toys?

October 26th, 2010
Comments Off

Every Christmas toy companies come out with new lines of toys in an attempt to catch the public’s imagination.  Some succeed wildly, while others don’t catch on so quickly.  In the case of Sing-A-Ma-Jig toys, Fisher Price (and not Matel as many people incorrectly believe) has hit a grand slam home run.  The Sing-A-Ma-Jig toy line features nine different types of stuffed animals that range from the somewhat normal looking although oddly colored to the all out crazy appearance that makes the old school Fraggles look normal and tame.  Each different colored Sing A Ma Jig toy sings a different classic kid’s song, making them all very collectible in order to form a harmonizing chorus.

These toys are small stuffed animals who all sing, although the song is determined by color.  For example, the nine different colors to choose from (and each one varies in appearance beyond a simple color change) and the song associated with each are listed right below:

  • Hot Pink Sing A Ma Jigs – “A Tisket A Tasket”
  • Light Blue Sing A Ma Jigs – “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”
  • Mint Green Sing A Ma Jigs – “It’s Raining, it’s Pouring”
  • Orange Sing A Ma Jigs – “On Top of Old Smokey”
  • Purple Sing A Ma Jigs – “O Susanna!”
  • Pink Sing A Ma Jigs – “Skip to my Lou”
  • Yellow Sing A Ma Jigs – “Home on the Range”
  • Red Sing A Ma Jigs – “Where Has My Little Dog Gone?”
  • Teal Sing A Ma Jigs – “When the Saints Go Marching In”

While each one of these toys is designed to stand alone and work as a great gift, even though they sing different songs they are also designed to harmonize somewhat with one another, making it an even more attractive option to collect all of them and play with them together as a chorus.  While these toys aren’t going to be right for everyone, many young children will absolutely love them and these toys also give the chance for kids to learn early childhood songs and enjoy music even at a young age.

How To Clean Pool Balls At Home

October 22nd, 2010
Comments Off

A lot of people like to play pool or billiards at home.  This is such a fun game and you can enjoy it with your family members and friends.  The first time you brought them home from the shop, of course they are brand new and look shiny and flawless.  After you have played with them for quite some time they tend to collect dust and thus, start to become dirty.

The cue ball is the quickest one to become dirty because it is used the most by billiard players.  Don’t worry though, because there are easy ways for you to clean up pool balls effectively.  You can do it on your own whenever you have free time at home.

You only need a spoonful of dish washing liquid detergent, a piece of sponge and a pail of warm water.  Soak the billiard balls in the pail for a few minutes so that the dirt will come off easily.  Use the sponge to get rid of the blemishes on the billiard balls.  Most of the dirt will come off, but you may notice a little dirty spot here and there on the surface of the balls.  Don’t worry about it – rinse the balls and dry them using a dry towel.

Now is the time for you to really clean your billiard balls.  Use a specific cleaner for billiard balls and apply it on the dirty spots.  By doing this, generally all dirt will come off from the balls.  Sometimes billiard balls may have marks of deep scratches.  Even though the scratches may appear dirty they are actually not; so just let them be since you can’t do anything to the scratch marks.  Just apply billiard ball wax on the surface of the balls to make them shine.

You should also clean your billiard table lights whenever you clean the balls.  This is to ensure that the billiard table lights are able to produce enough lighting when you play.  It is also necessary to clean up your billiard table lights regularly because by doing this you are maintaining an overall cleanliness in the area where you play pool.

Wreath Ideas for Country Christmas Decor

October 19th, 2010
Comments Off

You can immediately greet your guests at the door with country Christmas decor. A wreath can be a very welcoming item. Whether you go with a live version or faux one this can be quite expensive. You might want lasting elements that you can reuse year after year as part of your fireplace surround design. Since this is such a staple in design you can also find ways to make sure that it looks different from your neighbors. This is especially important if you live in a neighborhood where all of the houses kind of seem the same. Your Christmas decorations are one way you can personalize the exterior of your home. This is also quite inexpensive and it’s a craft project that you can probably do yourself and your kids may even be able to help.

Start out with a basic form. Of course this would usually be an evergreen wreath. This can have a fragrant smell. If you do decide to go with a faux version then it needs to be a high quality one so that it doesn’t look too cheesy or predictable. You can also just start off with a basic grapevine wreath. In this case it’s going to add in that country look with twigs and branches. However, you will have to try extra hard to add in extra embellishments just so that it does look like the holidays. This is one of the least expensive wreath forms out there so it’s a great option to really get rustic look.

Color is also a very important element in country Christmas decor. This can be something fun that even kids can enjoy. You can use different wrapped candies to really accent the wreath. You can also tie it with a colorful plaid ribbon. If you don’t have ribbon then just try cutting a scrap of fabric. Country fabric can have a floral print, plaid, or basic poinsettia or snowman look. You can even tear it so that the edges fray. This is going to be very evocative of a rustic style and you can tie it into a bow or even wrap the entire wreath with it. Another option that you can go with is to just use a traditional rustic fabric and wrap it around the entire wreath for the holidays. You can also even hang cowbells from this. You can change out a lot of these elements for every different season so that you can reuse the more expensive items later on.

XBox Kinect to Challenge the Wii

October 14th, 2010
Comments Off

For the past 4 years, the Nintendo Wii game system has ruled the casual gaming market without a competitor. It seems that the other two big players in the gaming console business, Sony with its Playstation, and Microsoft with the Xbox 360, were caught partly off guard by the success of the Wii. Maybe they thought that motion control gaming would just be a passing fad, or maybe they just didn’t have the technology team to get the job done, but either way, they waited long enough for the Wii to be become the best selling game console in history.

This fall, the Wii will finally get some competition from its two rivals. Sony just introduced the Move add-on for the Playstation and shortly Microsoft will be shipping its answer to the Wii, called Kinect. The Playstation Move looks surprisingly like the Wii remote controllers and works in a similar way. The Kinect and the Xbox Kinect games, however, work in quite a different way than either the Wii of the Move.

The Xbox Kinect is motion control done with your body, your voice, and gestures that you make. The system uses a motion detection camera to read these inputs from the player and translate these into control of the game system menus and the play of the games. Effectively, you stand in front of the TV and the Kinect camera (the peripheral required to enable motion detection) tracks your movements and replicates these into the games. So, if you are playing tennis, you swing your arm like you were swinging a tennis racquet to play the game.

The new Kinect camera will work with any existing Xbox 360 system and can be ordered separately. All new Xbox 360 systems sold after Kinect begins shipping will have the option of coming with the Kinect camera included. Pricing will be roughly $300 for a Kinect enabled Xbox 360 and the Kinect games will start around $50 which is a bit of a premium compared to the Wii or the Move so you can expect the prices to drop after the initial excitement.

Chop Saws: The Best Way to Make Precise and Easy Cuts

October 13th, 2010
Comments Off

Some home improvement and décor jobs require that the cross cuts or straight cuts that are made should be very accurate and clean. This is the only way to finish a project in the best possible way and to have the proper shape and size of the cut object. This is why including a chop saw or miter saw to your equipment can be the right move. This kind of power tool can really lessen the work you will be doing in order to get other kind of saws to complete the job. A chop saw blade can provide you with a precise and easy cut in less time and with the least amount of effort.

There are two basic types of miter saws or chops saws and the ones the cut through only wood are a regular type while the other special type of miter saw is the one with an abrasive chop saw blade. This is because this kind of blade can be used to cut through metals like steel and can even cut through rocks! You can even buy one of those mini chop saws in the market which can also be useful for smaller jobs and is very easily portable. But no matter what type of chop saw it is, if it is from a good reliable brand it will work well for years to come and it will provide you with the best cuts possible. Whether it is a cross cut or a straight cut, a miter saw will be making your task that much easier.

Many framing and molding jobs can be carried out with the help of this miter saw and they can be used effectively with just a little bit of practice. You can also practice on your power tool before you actually use it for a job so that you can get well acquainted with the entire working of the saw before you delve into a proper project. This will ensure proper cutting techniques to be employed and you will be familiar with such things like how much force is needed to hold the saw blade to the piece of wood or metal and how firm you really need to hold your hand in order to get the best result. These things can change from brand to brand and this is why there is no general rule for this kind of thing but you can do some experimentation with useless pieces to know exactly what your chop saw works like.

When buying the chop saw it is also important to have some attachment along with the saw which can make the cutting process easier and more accurate. This includes the use of a compound which allows the user to set the right blade angle with the horizontal plane. Another useful attachment is a slide which actually allows the blade to move in a direction that is parallel to the cut to make the cut longer. Lasers are also used with modern chop saws and they help in indicating the right direction.

Flip Track for Your Mighty Beans – Get Yours Today!

October 11th, 2010
Comments Off

Moose’s Mighty Beanz have recently been re-released onto the general public in 3 new forms – Series 2, Mighty Beanz Star Wars, and the Marvel Universe themed mighty beanz as well. This big new marketing push for the beans is sure to make them a sure fire hit over this Christmas.

The company has previously been responsible for producing the Ninja Turtle branded beanz as well as the Simpson beanz, which sold very well during their time on sale. The newer models have a couple of changes, probably the most surprising of which is that there have not been any “mega-beanz” as of yet. Mega Beanz were a lot bulkier than the standard models, but there have been none spotted as of yet in the newer models.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Mighty Beanz, they are capsule shaped toys that are around an inch tall. Inside each toy there is a magnet in a ball shape that causes all sorts of mayhem when the ball is rolling. When two beanz are placed beside each other they wobble, for example. If you remember the Mexican jumping beans from many years ago you can images what these toys are like.

Which brings us on to the flip tracks available for the Mighty Beanz. There are a few variations, but almost all of them involve raising and lowering an end of the track so that the bean-shaped toys roll down with the assistance of gravity. In the middle of the toy there is a tricky obstacle for the Beanz to navigate – can you make it?!

Flip tracks are available multiple colors as well, with red and blue being the most popular. This track, while it sounds simple, adds many hours of fun to what is already a great toy. Check it out at stores today!

Some Great Hobbies For Your To Try Out

October 7th, 2010

Winter time’s coming up. Gone are the days where you could spend all day in the park eating ice creams and playing football on the grass, the rain and dark afternoons have put a stop to a lot of the fun. You’ll find that over the next few months less and less people will be coming out doors, opting instead to do more home based activities and sitting in front of the TV. What do I say to that? STOP BEING SO BORING!!! It doesn’t matter if there’s a bit of rain outside, hey, it don’t even matter if it’s snowing. Life is still made to be lived to the max, so it’s time to brave the cold and carry on life as normal.

Here are a few activities I personally love doing in the winter:

Swimming.
I know I know, “It’s too cold to go swimming”. I hear it all the time. But you know what, it’s really not. The inside is no colder then any other building with heating, and the pools are never usually the warmest even in summer. But why do I enjoy going swimming in the winter so much? Because there’s hardly any one there! Yes, everyone’s to scared to come out into the pool, so you have a lot more swimming space to yourself. So grab your mens swimming trunks and get swimming!

Wine Tasting.
Wine tasting is something I enjoy all year round, but more so at winter. Yes it may be something to do with the wine warming you up during the cold season, but it’s also something good to do with your friends that are too scared to go outside. So take those bottles out of your wooden wine racks and get tasting.

There are other activities worth doing to, so this year make sure you enjoy winter and don’t get in the winter blues.

Playing MMORPGs Like World of Warcraft

When playing in an massively multiplayer online game (MMOG), certain guidelines of video gaming will have been changed. One such rule is that while a single-player game may not have long-lasting consequences to your actions in-game, the mere indisputable fact that the online world will persist even after you quit the game, will mean that you will have to be rather cautious concerning the ramifications of your actions. Considering of killing a city guard? How about attacking a fellow participant? Or dishonest an harmless guild member? These actions, achieved in a single-player recreation, wouldn’t have much impact – on the most, you would load from a previous save recreation level and take a greater course of action. Nonetheless, these actions may have dire penalties in a web based recreation, much like World of Warcraft.

In the event you’ve ever played games like World of Warcraft before, then you’ll know that apart from the traditional questing and collecting of things another enormous a part of gameplay is your character’s reputation. Identical to how it’s like in actual life.

Having an evil, despicable character may be what some people need, but watch out that you just commit actions that inadvertently lead you down that path. As soon as you are labeled and referred to as an evil character, you’re pretty much assigned to that fate. If you want to re-build your reputation, then it will be a protracted and tedious journey. In my own private opinion, it’s much easier to get destructive popularity than to construct positive reputation. In truth, some of WoW’s guides even have this area covered. Such guides may be familiar to you as a result of it is broadly acclaimed and standard all through the World of Warcraft gaming community. These guides are: Joanas Horde Leveling Guide, and Zygor Leveling Guide. If you are intending to be serious about World of Warcraft, then these WoW gaming guides will certainly save you a variety of time and grief.

Getting your Guitar Neck Repaired

October 3rd, 2010

I’ve been touring around the country for over 15 years as a professional musical and have seen a lot on the road. I’ve experienced vans that have broken down, band members that have quite, stolen interment and no pay check for the gig. Over the years, I feel like I’ve seen it all. But I feel that the worst feeling is trekking the country for days and days only to open your guitar case hours before a gig and find that the guitar neck is cracked. This can happen in many ways. It can simply be packed in too tight and the tension just snapped the neck. It can be in the back trailer and falls to the ground without anyone hearing it. Or it can be simply packed wrong and squeezed into and area to tight. Whatever the case, when you pull that guitar out and see that double neck guitar broken, your heart breaks with it.

All guitar necks are all different. Some are made of more durable wood than others and some err not made of wood at all. An acoustic guitar neck and an electric guitar neck can be different as well. Even a bass guitar neck can be constructed diffidently, but in all these guitars, if it breaks, you’re in a situation that is not good. However, over the years I have experienced this more than once (unfortunately) and have come to realize that there is in fact a way around this problem. I have found that having some wood super glue on hand can “make or break” you in this situation. This option does not only work on wooden guitars. You would be very surprised how wood superglue actually works on metal guitars as well.

But in my situation, I opened up my gig bag and found the guitar neck to be complete cracked. It was a few hours away from the gig and I knew I needed to do something quick. I went to the nearest hardware store and found some super glue. I had no expectations that this was ogling to work but was out of options. I took the strings off the guitar and unload the super glue onto the guitar neck. As I did this, I could hear the drummer and the bass player of the band jamming away on the drums and bass cabinet in the other room and all I wanted to do was be there with them getting ready for the night. I put the glue on applied some pressure to the cracked area and hoped it would work.

To my surprise, after waiting about an hour, I let the tension go and the guitar neck seemed to be stating in place. I restrung the guitar and again was pleasantly surprised that everything stayed in place. I went ton to play one of the best gigs of my life and had to give it up to the super glue!
