Every major sport in the United States has a trade deadline, a specific date and time during the regular season when teams must lock their rosters and are restricted from trading players. With post-deadline traded players ineligible for postseason play, the trade deadline essentially puts a freeze on trading.

In the National Basketball Association, the deadline for trading players is the Thursday of the 16th week of the season at 3pm. Unless the season starts late due to a strike or lockout, the trade deadline falls in mid to late February, shortly after the All-Star Game and about two months before the start of the postseason.

Some consider the deadline to be rather late since it arrives four months into a six-month season. After all, teams can change their roster radically when the regular season is well past half over. There are certainly arguments for and against such a late trade deadline. Those who argue for a late trade deadline believe the short period between the cut-off date and the playoffs allows teams to truly evaluate their playoff chances and to enhance their rosters in order to qualify for the postseason or bolster their playoff chances. Fans of a late deadline say this leads to a more exciting playoff.

Purists argue against the late trade deadline in the NBA. They believe that it allows strong teams to just get stronger and weak teams to give up, dumping expensive players and high salaries from their balance sheets. If a team is on the bubble with a tough schedule going into the final stretch, they argue, they might just give up, saving money and getting a better chance at higher draft picks later. At the same time, teams projected to easily make the playoffs only get tougher with the added personnel. Many NBA fans believe a late trade deadline hurts the purity of the game and widens the disparity between perennial super teams and smaller market contenders.

Regardless of where a fans stands in this argument, it can’t be debated that mid-February is an exciting, tumultuous time for NBA fans. After 16 weeks of competition and the All-Star game, those on both sides of the argument stand amazed at the last second moves as both superstars and journeymen role players alike shift alignments in a last-ditch play at post-season glory.

I was killing some time down at the golf shop while a salesman looked for the 7-iron I had ordered….so, just for the heck of it, I picked up this funny looking nubby thing and started hitting putts. At first I was amused at how I couldn’t seem to miss, but after about an hour of trying different putters I felt compelled, almost against my will, to buy this little marvel.

Out on the course it took some getting used to. At first the soft face caused a vague lack of feel and poor distance control, but after a few rounds the results for me were simply amazing. I’m putting on a whole new level, feeling confident and in control and making many, many more putts. Even the misses are better; lots of exciting lip outs, peek-ins and cliff hangers. Golf is definitely more interesting and fun like this.

The Taylor Made Nubbins Putter feel is solid and balanced. It sets up and aligns beautifully. Strokes like it have a gyroscope. Very soft, novel feel at impact.

The downside is slow, shaggy or wet greens. I feel that you must stroke some putts so hard that accuracy goes out the window and the soft, nubby face insert may dampen the feel of ball contact too much for some. Impact is almost totally cushioned.

All things considered though, if you’re shopping for a putter (or not) this beauty is a bargain for the price and well worth a good audition. They’ll have to pry mine from my cold, dead hands. Thanks TM.

Took me from low 90′s to high 80′s. I am not a great golfer but the feel on this stick is excellent. The face seems to take away the smacking feeling on poor putts and allows me to be more consistent. Really comparable to the Taylormade R7 3 Wood.

In today’s world a NFL game going 40 to something is believed to be a high scoring game and usually Tom Brady is tagged along with the score of that game. It is hard to believe that a score of 40 something is not the highest it has been before. In the past games have been as high as 50 plus points. Amazingly the two highest scoring games involve the same football team, the Washington Redskins.

November 27th 1966, was the year the highest scoring regular season game occurred. The game was between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants. Washington beat New York with a score of 72-41. This game is also in the record books for being the highest scored game with a combined total of 113 points. The Washington Quarterback of that time was Sonny Jurgensen, and overall the team finished the season with a 7-7 record, which was mediocre and did not get them into the play-offs.

The highest scoring play-off game in the NFL was the 1940 Championship between the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins. This game is also considered the biggest blowout in NFL History. The Chicago Bears beat the Washington Redskins 73-0 on December 8th 1940. The Washington Redskins had previously defeated the Chicago Bears in regular season. The Championship was played at Griffith Stadium in Washington DC in front of 36,000 fans it was also the first title game televised on national television. The Bears led 28-0 at halftime and by the second half the Bear’s head coach replaced the first stringers with the second stringer and continued to add on points. The Bears ended up recording 501 total yards on offense, 382 total rushing yards, and 8 interceptions returning 3 for touchdowns. This 1940 game was also noted as the last time a player played the game without a helmet. The highest combined score playoff game was between the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers, when the Arizona Cardinals beat the Green Bay Packers 51-45, a combined total of 96 points in January of 2010.

As the years progress and high scoring football games become a thing of the past, when only a score of 51 or lower is the norm, one wonders if we will ever have a record breaking game like the 1940′s Bears or 1966 Redskins. Teams with the capabilities to pull those kinds of scores are hard to come by, but who knows it could happen!
