How to See the World Cheaply

July 9th, 2011
Comments Off

It is the dream of countless young people to be able to travel around the world. Unfortunately, for many the great obstacle to achieving this dream is economic resources. Plane tickets are getting so expensive and the prices for dormitory beds in many hostels around the world are getting prohibitively expensive too. It seems that travel is big business and there are countless websites and travel agents all keen to tell people they need to book in advance and waste their money on commissions to middle-men.

One of the last ways to really see the world cheaply is to get a job on yacht. A yacht is a luxury boat normally with elegant lines designed for recreational purposes. Yachts can be either wind driven or motor driven (or both). They are very expensive but they remain a great status symbol for the wealthy.

Naturally, the wealthy are not keen to sail their yacht or super yacht by themselves. Rather they want a crew to take care of both sailing the boat and looking after the passengers. Often it is the case that wealthy yacht owners do not advertise positions on their vessels. They prefer to do without the publicity. Thus, it is important to try and befriend professional captains, pursers and safety officers. If you can appear as a trustworthy and healthy person who is enthusiastic to learn the ropes of yachting you can often get a last minute position on a boat.

The best places to ask around are obviously places where luxury yachts are docked and in yachting clubs. During the winter months it is often the case that the owner of a yacht will want a crew to take his or her boat down to the Caribbean. They will often fly. This is the favorite destination for the wealthy from America.

If you have no experience on a yacht then it is still possible to get a job as a deckhand or steward. The first position means you have to clean and maintain the boat. The second position involves seeing to the needs of the passengers – waiting tables, doing laundry, making beds etc.

Once you have finished your first job you are in a much better position to apply for more yachting jobs. Before you know it you will be half way around the world and you will have made money instead of having spent lots of money on plane tickets and hostel beds.

July 3rd, 2011
Comments Off

Who doesn’t like to vacation in a nice location? If that is you and also enjoy returning to the same familiar place than a timeshare might be something you should consider.

Buying a new one is a possibility but buying a used timeshare offers the buyer an opportunity to save a considerable amount of money. Let’s take a look at 3 essential tips that will help your buy a used timeshare.

Tip One: Know the difference between a deeded timeshare and certificate of use. A deeded timeshare is when ownership of the timeshare is transferred to you via a deed. This is the most secure way of buying a timeshare and will allow you to much more easily transfer ownership if you decide to sell.

A certificate transfer of ownership only transfer the right to use it. You do not own the real estate. These are not common at all in the United State and we recommend you stay away from these types of timeshare transfers.

Tip Two: Flexibility on which weeks they will allow you to vacation is important. Not everyone can take vacation at the same time every year. Having the ability to choose different weeks based on availability is an important feature.

In addition the ability to exchange timeshare for other within their network of timeshare will allow you to visit and vacation at other timeshare.

Tip Three: Have a realistic budget. Often times we become enamored with the nicely decorated timeshare that is situated in the perfect location. We have to see past this and stick to a budget when looking to buy a timeshare. Your budget should include the down payments, monthly payments, and monthly maintenance fees.

Buying a used timeshare will safe you a lot of money and can be a rewarding purchase that your whole family will enjoy. Check out Craiglist timeshares for sell to learn more.

Quick Luggage Tips

June 10th, 2011
Comments Off

People who are going to regularly travel should try to bring as little luggage as possible. Unless you have lots of belongings, try fitting everything into your carry-on. Some great tips have been listed below for finding good quality suitcases.

Quality Suitcases

Before buying a suitcase, you should always make sure it comes from a reputable manufacturer and is made from quality materials. If you have a larger budget, you can consider getting fashionable suitcases like a Gucci luggage set. Avoid suitcases that do not have an international presence otherwise it will be difficult to fix your suitcase while traveling. Many travelers are now aware of pathfinder luggage out of business, so fixing any pathfinder luggage will be quite difficult.

Carry-on

If you want your flying to become easier, bring carry-on luggage. If you eliminate check-in luggage, it will put all of your possessions in one position so nothing will be in risk of getting lost or stolen. However, passengers are only allowed to bring a limited amount of items in their carry-on, so you should factor in the weight and size of your belongings. Usually, passengers will only be allowed to bring a backpack, carry-on bag, and another item like an umbrella or coat. If you overload your bag, you may have complications at the airport.

Pack Right

People who bring a lot of belongings should make a list of all of their items. Once you have reached your destination, you can cross-check all of the items to make sure nothing got lost or stolen. If you are bringing anything fragile, try to put it in your carry-on suitcase. If you are bringing a pet or a restricted item aboard the plane, you should contact the airline and ask for permission. In most cases, you will need official paperwork to pass through security.

Tuscany: The Treasure Of Italy

June 9th, 2011
Comments Off

Very few places compare to Tuscany when it comes to the sheer diversity of experiences it offers a tourist. Tuscany combines the best of Italy – incredible art, iconic architecture, beautiful landscapes and even delectable cuisine. No wonder, it is one of the best holiday travel destinations in the world.

Florence was the capital of Italy under the Romans and it was here that the Italian Renaissance originated in the 14th century. Art, science, philosophy and architecture flourished here. The likes of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo worked here and have left behind a rich and priceless legacy for the city. Today you can see their works in the numerous museums and galleries in Florence.

Tuscany has as many as six World Heritage Sites. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is considered one of the seven wonders of the world and is a must-see for every visitor. While in Pisa, don’t limit your visit to just the Leaning Tower, but take time to explore the rest of the town. The grand Gothic churches of Siena and the unique octagonal Duomo in Florence are some of the other architectural marvels in Tuscany.

The region is blessed with a rich and fertile soil. You will see the evidence of this when you drive past rolling green hills, yellow fields of sunflowers, and olive and cypress groves. You will also see unending miles of vineyards. Some of Italy’s best wines come from the region of Chianti and you must definitely go for a wine tasting tour when you are in Chianti.

Several medieval hilltop villages offer panoramic views of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Towns like San Gimignano and Montepulciano are a delight to discover on foot. Walk through their narrow cobbled streets and you may come across lovely churches and museums. Make time to have a meal or coffee at some of these quaint towns and villages as you drive through Tuscany.

The region has a rich culinary tradition and is a paradise for those who like meat. From hare, duck and boar, to cured meats and sausages, your taste buds will be seduced by a rich fare. Try the different kinds of pasta as well.

For a holiday that offers you as much diversity, you can also take a cruise through Europe in summer. Although cruises can be expensive, you can get some great bargains with last minute cruise deals.

Choosing the Best Places to Retire

June 4th, 2011
Comments Off

Choosing one of the best places to retire can sometimes be a difficult and daunting task. It can be particularly tough to accomplish, especially if you’re not aware of the many great retirement destinations out there. The reality is from Durham, NC to Prescott, AZ to Hanover, NH, there are many great places to live after retirement.

Durham, NC. Affordable homes, a high-quality medical center and a wide variety of golf courses and recreational activities make Durham, NC one of the best places to retire. The best thing about Durham, NC is its senior learning program at Duke University. Not only is the program one of the largest, if not the largest, in the country but its also one of the most popular attractions for seniors or retirees.

Prescott, AZ. Few retirement destinations are as scenic as Prescott, AZ. If you want to live in a country-style environment, look no further than Prescott. Located an approximate 100 miles north of Phoenix, Prescott boasts quaint Victorian homes, fair weather and a small-town feel. Film festivals, outdoor concerts, craft fairs and art shows are a few popular attractions in Prescott.

Hanover, NH. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you may want to reside in Hanover, NH. Kayaking, hiking and skiing are popular outdoor activities enjoyed in Hanover by the young and old alike. Houses are a bit expensive in this popular retirement destination, yet you could always choose to buy a home a few miles away from the city for a less, inexpensive price if you’re tight on money.

Durham, NC, Prescott, AZ and Hanover, NH are a few of the best places to live. Not only do they boast scenic views and popular attractions, but they also each boast some of the friendliest neighbors and communities. If you want to retire peacefully, consider choosing one of the above mentioned retirement destinations!

Speed less on accommodation for your next trip

May 30th, 2011

Despite the fact that alot more travelers than ever before are choosing the world wide web to purchase holiday accommodation in some ways picking out the best hotel can be just as complicated as always. I often find that there’s just too many options to select from, particularly if you are searching in a big city. One other issue is if you’ve never been in the city previously and you are unfamiliar with the layout it is often really difficult to determine if your hotel is inside the middle of the action or not. Here are some points I try to look for when choosing a place to stay.

The location is really critical when considering hotels and it has a bigger effect on price compared with every other factor. It’s well known that residing in the city centre is going to be more costly than outside the city, there is however often a good reason behind this. Tourists usually don’t take into account the additional transport costs with commuting to the key attractions each day, this is especially valid should you want to travel by cab since they often like to take advantage of holiday-makers.

One thing which i know creates a huge difference to hotel cost is the period you reserve for as I discovered fairly recently while looking for Belfast hotels. People often are aware of low and high season rates yet do you know booking from Tuesday to Wednesday for the majority of hotels will be as much as 40% cheaper versus the weekend? I think it’s really worth considering taking your getaway at a time when other people are at work because cost savings could be huge.

I also often try to reserve only hotels that offer just the amenities I want. For example it could be nice if the hotel you are looking into includes a free on location health club however you can bet it has been added into the total room rate. In my opinion it’s all about paying for the essential features i will need and nothing more. Hopefully these guidelines help you locate the ideal hotel.

While Thailand has always been a popular destination, over the past decade one of the islands is becoming increasingly more popular as a mainstream destination for travelers. That island is Koh Phi Phi and if you are a fan of island vacations then this Thai paradise is well worth checking out. It has everything you are looking for in an island paradise and that’s why scores of vacationers have decided to make Phi Phi their destination of choice.

Thanks to the increased popularity of the island there is now a huge range of accommodations that you can choose from. Where once the island was dominated by budget bungalows and guest houses, recent years have seen the addition of many upscale hotels and resorts and it is now possible to find a place to stay at any price point. And because of the famous Thai hospitality, no matter where you stay you will be greeted warmly and taken care of with world class service.

Koh Phi Phi started off as a haven for adventure seeking backpackers in Thailand, however the release of the movie The Beach changed all that and put the island firmly on the map for all sorts of island lovers. In addition to the outstanding beaches Phi Phi island is also home to some of the best snorkeling and diving to be had anywhere. There are numerous dive shops on the island so if this is your intention you will easily be able to find either a dive shop or tour operator to take you to some of these wonderful dive locations.

Because there is still no airport on the island the only way to arrive is by boat and that actually works to Phi Phi’s advantage as it keeps the number of tourists down a bit. The island maintains a quiet and laid back atmosphere thanks to this, although the party lovers will still be able to find some great nightlife on the island. Over all, this is a great place to come to for diving, sunbathing, nightlife, relaxing or any combination of these activities.

Cooking classes in Italy.

October 22nd, 2010
Comments Off

Enjoying Italian foods is one of the best parts of traveling in Italy.  Each region of the country has its own unique cuisine, which is usually based on the best local ingredients.

In Northern Italy, the cooking is closer to what you’ll find in Switzerland or Germany with lots of game and dairy products.  In Southern Italy, tomatoes and seafood from the Mediterranean are the stars.   Tuscany, the islands of Sicily and Sardinia, and Campania — the home of Neapolitan pizza — all have delicious dishes that no traveler should miss.

But there’s another way to experience Italy’s wonderful cooking and to enjoy the Italian lifestyle first hand: cooking classes.  Most Italian cities offer them, and they provide travelers with an in-depth look at what’s so special about Italy’s love affair with food.

You can sign up for anything from a half-day class to a three-week program.  And some even include certification.

Most half-day classes include a visit to a lively, open-air food market.  Campo de Fiori in Rome is surrounded by shops selling wine, meats and cheeses, and olives oils and vinegars.  In Florence, the San Lorenzo market sells truffles and white asparagus in season.  And in Turin, Eataly has its own market, with greengrocers, fish mongers, butchers, and cheese shops on site.

At the market, the teacher will introduce the students to ingredients they may not be familiar with and show them how to select fresh fish, ripe fruit and vegetables, cured meats, and Italian cheeses.

After buying ingredients for the meal, students return to the kitchen, which may be in a Rome apartment, a Tuscan villa, a restaurant, or a classroom.  Classes are taught by professional chefs, home cooks, cookbook authors, and other food professionals.   And the instructors work closely with the students to teach them the proper techniques.

Once the dishes are prepared, the students and instructor sit down at a communal table to enjoy a four-course meal, accompanied by good wine.  As a rule, there’s an appetizer, a pasta course, a meat dish, and a dessert such as tiramisu or panna cotta.  Meals are usually comprised of local specialties, and students leave with recipes for the dishes they prepared.

If you’re going to travel to Italy, maximize your culinary experience by signing up for a cooking class,

Where Is Perpignan?

October 16th, 2010
Comments Off

Location

Where is Perpignan? This is a question asked by those who have heard the city’s name but can’t place its location. Perpignan is located in Southern France, very close to the Spanish border. This particular location is the main reason for the rich Spanish cultural influence that has grown throughout the area. There are many sights to see in Perpignan, which is also known as the City of Festivals. As the name suggests, the place constantly celebrates feasts that are filled with wondrous activities that include firework displays as an added attraction. It is a small bustling town filled with locals and tourists who roam the streets enjoying the warm breeze and the beautiful sights that the city has to offer.

It is not a particularly well-known city but is getting increasingly popular and, indeed, is becoming a bit of an investment hotspot. Houses for sale in Perpignan are getting picked up an unprecedented rate.  One may think that the reason for this is due to Perpignan’s close proximity to the bigger and more developed city of Barcelona, and certainly there is some truth in this. The two cities share a great deal of common Catalan culture and the new TGV fast train line which is nearly finished will only accentuate this.
Diverse Cultures

This is a unique place where you will notice, apart from the local settlers, some Arabs and North Africans making it a very multi cultural city despite its small population. Compared to other areas, Perpignan has fewer monuments to see, however each place you visit is worth the effort because the cultural history is fascinating. You will never get bored exploring the area, the lively atmosphere, the hustle and bustle of the city life will keep you occupied late into the night.

There are plenty of airlines flying to and from Perpignan. Cheap flights are available if you book early. Travel agents can help you plan a package that offers both accommodation and tours around the city.

Relocating to Perpignan

As mentioned property in Perpignan is rising in price so now would be a good time to invest if you are looking for a holiday home in this part of the world. Take the time to look around as there is a lot of choice and the difference in prices can be confusing. A nice apartment close to the new TGV link will certainly be a good investment.

Exploring the Revolution Brought About By ATX Computer Power Supply System

October 13th, 2010
Comments Off

Nowadays, most computers use what are referred to as ATX power supply systems. Indeed, the ATX has come something of a standard – to the extent that the only computers you will find operating on the previous system are those big mainframe and minicomputers from the 70s and 80s that some eccentric organizations have decided to hang onto. That previous system (the predecessor to the ATX) was simply known as the AT- so that it is the ‘X’ that was added to the whole thing.

By the way, ATX stands for ‘Advanced Technology Extended,’ whilst AT simply stands for ‘Advanced Technology’ (un-extended).

At a technical level, the difference between AT and ATX system would be in the fact that the AT system used to one created in such a way that the power switch (usually found in front of the computer) would be connected to the power supply unit directly. What this meant was that to put the computer on or off, you would have to press on the switch. On the other hand, the ATX power supply system is designed in such a way that the main power switch on the computer connects to the computer’s motherboard. That is not to say that the motherboard gets its supply directly from the grid, of course. The motherboard still gets its power supply from the PSU (power supply unit), after the power has been converted into DC. But it (the motherboard) is also directly connected to the computer’s main switch – so that, through impulses it produces, it can actually switch the computer’s power supply on or off.

That design of the ATX power supply system has been revolutionary. It is what has brought about the possibility we now have, of switching the computer on or off through software actions. Nowadays, it is actually considered something of a ‘wrong action’ to switch the computer off through the power switch. What we are usually advised to do is to proceed to the computer’s ‘start button’ in the case of Windows, then select ‘turn off’ and then confirm, to have the computer switch itself off in the correct way. That becomes possible through the ATX’s mechanism of connecting the motherboard directly to the computer’s on/off switch at the front, which enables the computer to ‘switch itself off.’

How The Sprint Family Locater Can Be Useful To You

If you aren’t familiar with the Sprint Family Locater cell phone tracking application, I’m going to take a minute and discuss what it is and tell you why it might be useful to you. To get started, you should know that the Sprint Family Tracker is a a service that you can use to track the other cell phones on your cell phone account from any Internet connected computer. It will cost you $5.00 a month to use the service but it is definitely worth the money.

Some people may wonder what makes the Sprint Family Locator different than all of the other free cell phone tracking applications that are available to use. Let me take a minute and tell you about a feature that the Sprint cell phone tracker has that the others simply don’t. It is called “automatic location check”. This feature will allow you to configure the system to check the location of a member of your cell phone tracking network without you needing to do anything.

After you have enabled automatic location checks, you will get a text message sent to you at the time  and the day of your choosing that contains the location of a particular cell phone. This text message comes to you every day without you needing to remember to check the location of anyone. Let me tell you how this is helpful to me and why I think it sets the Sprint Family Locator apart from the other cell phone tracking applications that you can choose from.

My mother is getting up in years and I’m really starting to get worried about her. I have noticed that she is forgetting more and more things but she is not willing to give up her independence. I have begged her to move in with us but she refuses because she is an independent woman. The compromise we made was that she carries a cell phone with the automatic location check feature enabled. I get several text messages a day alerting me to her exact location. This allows her to still have her independence but it allows me to know where she is and not worry so much so much.
