Beyond The Sneaker: Finding Alternative Casual Shoes

August 31st, 2010

Sneakers are great. They are super comfortable. Some are fashion forward. And let’s face it, some situations simply demand sneakers. Having a fun sneaker collection can add a lot to your wardrobe, and they are an element no woman can afford to skip. But relying on sneakers as your go to casual character shoe is not a good style tactic.

Casual shoes that are a little bit dressy will just make you feel better, even on your jeans and t-shirt days. If you are looking to break away from your sneakers for a day or two, these tips will help you find some alternatives that will work in every casual situation. If you have no desire to depart from your sneakers for a moment of your downtime, maybe you can use some of these tips to find slightly dressier sneakers.

The first issue to tackle is the heel. Stilettos are not a casual shoe, but that doesn’t mean that you must avoid all heels. Classified shoes wedges are a casual shoe with a heel, and often a high one. Any chunky heel, one that adds substance, can pass as a casual shoe.

So, you don’t to wear heels at all? Slides and many variety of sandals are an option for warmer weather. Ballet flats are an option year round.

How do you know if you should have a heel in your casual shoes, and how much of a heel to go for? If your pants are long, you need a heel of some sort. You don’t want your pants dragging. If the pants only come to the top of your shoe, then you need flats, or else it will look like your pants are too short. However you pair your casual shoes, remember that you are supposed to relax, and its not that big of a deal.
