The Best Teeth Whitening Products
Teeth whitening is commonly wrongly used to describe dental bleaching procedures. Whitening is a procedure that does not include any bleaching agent and does not make the teeth look whiter, but instead efficiently removes stains from the surface of the enamel. When a bleaching agent is used, the inside of the enamel is oxidized and pigments in the stains are broken down. The end result will be a perfect white smile if you are lucky – some people will never get that pearly smile no matter what they do because of various reasons.
Most of the best teeth whitening products are bleaches no matter how the terms are misused. The basic kit that you can purchase at a store comes with a syringe, a bleaching agent gel and a tray that is loosely molded to fit your teeth. You then put the tray in boiling water for a few minutes and mold it to perfectly fit your teeth. Once it has cooled down you apply the bleach inside the tray – it usually contains either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide – and place the tray in your mouth. Depending on the individual product, the time that you have to keep t on varies from thirty minutes up to a few hours or even during the whole night.
Our teeth are basically made of two layers – the dentin and the enamel – and once we grow older the enamel gets thinner and thinner, eventually being a little transparent and showing the color of the denting through. Dentin isn’t white but usually gray or yellowish brown, and this is one of the biggest reasons why some people don’t get good results no matter how many dental bleaching products they use. After too many uses the side-effects such as excessive sensitivity to hot or cold or even pressure, can take place. This is why it is important to see your dentist if you plan to whiten your teeth a lot.
