How Do You Choose A Coffee Maker?

July 11th, 2010

There are many different varieties of coffee makers in the stores today. With so many options to choose from, a regular shopping trip to a buy a coffee maker can be confusing if you don’t already know what you want. Some things to consider are price, where you want to use it such as the office or home and which features are included. Below you will find a list of what you can find in a coffee machine.

Generally, drip coffee makers are used the most frequently and the least expensive to buy. There is not much difference from what one drip machine to another since they are fairly basic machines. Some differences that you will find are the type of carafe, whether it is glass or metal and the size of it from one cup to 12. Some drip coffee machines do not use a carafe, but rather it will pour the coffee directly into your cup.

Percolators are a distinctly different type of coffee pot. This is the type of pot that our grandmothers used to use before the new drip machines were invented and now they are becoming popular again. A percolator does not have any of the functions of the new machines. Many people feel that the flavor of the coffee is much richer when made in one of these. A percolator is not plugged into the wall, but rather heated over the stovetop.

A third kind of distinctly different coffee are the coffee pods. These are fairly new on the scene and many people like their convenience. This style of pod is a good choice for offices or homes with only one coffee drinker, or any other situation where a full pot does not need to be made. The only downside to this type of machine is that you cannot use any brand of coffee you choose because the pods are specifically made by the makers of the pot and are not usually interchangeable between brands. If you’re interested in the Keurig K cups a good choice for you is the Breville coffee maker.

The fourth kind of maker is known as a French press. It is a design that is very old and creates a much more flavorful and dark brew. It operates by forcing the coffee grounds through water that is boiling. Like a percolator, they too are used over the stovetop. French presses only make a cup or two at a time and they are slightly less desirable because they are more difficult to use.

As you can see many styles of coffee makers are available today. There is something to help every coffee drinker enjoy their morning brew. After considering all the options, it will be no problem to find the right choice for your own home.
