Utilizing Garage Cabinets for Storage

July 15th, 2010

With so many companies now in the garage storage industry as home design and remodeling continues to grow and expand to all parts of the house, there are a lot of choices in the market to pick from.  There are fancy track systems and rail systems that look sleek and nice but there is something to be said for the benefits or using garage cabinets for storage.

The top feature of garage cabinets are the ability to have doors, making them easy to close and hide things in the garage from either the view of neighbors when the garage door is open or else from young children if you want to store dangerous items like old paint cans, chemicals, laundry products or any type of yard pesticides. Having everything put away and nicely lined up gives the garage a very clean look and keeps nosy neighbors from seeing items you have when the garage door is up. You can also have a garage cabinet or two that comes with locks to keep any of the more valuable items you have safely locked up and stored away.

Garage storage cabinets also provide additional flexibility for storage as they can used really in three different ways, either sitting on the floor, hanging on the walls, or on the floor with rollers underneath so they can be moved easily around the garage floor. This comes in very handy for tool storage if you are working on your car in the garage or you do other project types in the garage space.

If you don’t want to fork out a lot of money for new garage cabinets, many people turn to old kitchen cabinets and use those in the garage for storage. You can either use the ones you have from home if you do a kitchen remodeling or pick some up at a garage sale or possibly a lumber yard.

Garage cabinets serve as a great storage solution and the flexibility they offer as far as clean lines, safety with locks and possible movement make them a great investment. If you don’t want to spend too many dollars, you can easily find used ones or else create your own as a do-it-yourself project.
