Why The Hell Do I Want Table Runners? Do I WANT a Table Runner?
Ah, table runners the only thing better than that is the table runner itself. Sad, I know.
But back to your good question, very good question in fact. There are a couple of answers to that question and I will do my best to provide you with how I see things at the moment from an interior design point of view and from my personal experience with the only great competition to the placemat, that is
First well there is the argument of function. Table runners just work! When your having a party and you want to show of your table with out wanting to ruin your table with coaster mark, spillages or any other damages you would expect on a table the answer is simple, table runners baby! They act as a nice way to give you show protection to put food, drinks on and without having to worry about what it is doing to your table.
Real life example – say you own a beautiful, open wood grain table that you wish to show off without covering it completely up and say like with the points above, you don’t want to ruin it. No you want to protect it this is the perfect call for the table runner. Simply put they are just a more elegant version of the placemat, just done better, and sound cooler. Do you know why it is called the table runner? Simply because of the idea of the material ‘running’ down the table, creating an idea of momentum and movement as opposed to the placemats which are static and do not shout out energy and pzazz like a good table runner.
So, where can you get your grubby little eager mits on one of these modern items of design bliss? Well, in my world there is only way to that and it is by getting down to your local vintage second hand store.
Go table runners !
