How Do CNA Classes Online Work?

Do you intend to enroll in CNA classes online? If so, then you need to know how this kind of CNA course program works. Basically, online CNA courses are structured distance learning programs designed to offer more flexible class schedules to accommodate students with busy lifestyles. In order to qualify for state CNA licensing exam, an aspiring CNA professional must complete at least 75 hours of class instruction and 16 hours of supervised clinical training in a real hospital setting or doctor’s office. Though classes are usually given online, clinical trainings must be performed on-site. That said, most online schools offering CNA courses collaborate with local hospitals so that their students will have a place to complete their clinical training.

In order to qualify for CNA nursing classes online, you need to have a computer with a stable internet connection (required to access web-casts, forum discussions, videos, and other internet based learning applications). You must also never have committed felonies or misdemeanors. In short, you need to have a clean criminal record. Most importantly, you have to pass the physical exam to ensure that you are in good and perfect health.

CNA classes online will touch on a variety of topics that will include but not limited to medical charting, fundamental nursing skills, first aid, CPR, hospital ethics, patient care, infection control, common medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diseases, charting, nutrition, and other important nursing knowledge.

Once you are accepted in the CNA class online nursing program, you will be given a special link or website wherein you need to log in to access your course modules and to attend online classes. You have to pass each learning module in order to successfully complete the program. Test and quizzes are given online to evaluate if the students indeed have acquired the necessary knowledge required to become a professional nursing assistant.

Most schools providing CNA classes online also offer practice tests for the state exam in order to prepare the students for the actual CNA licensing test. Remember that it is imperative that you pass the state exam since this will determine whether you can work as a professional CNA or not.  After passing the state exam, your name will be included in the nursing aide registry which is a list of individuals who are allowed to carry the title and work as Certified Nursing Assistants.

Searching for CNA Work

A job search for CNA work should be done as soon as you graduate and receive your certificate. Of course it helps to also do some preliminary work as well. For example, if you were in a co-op program through the nursing school then you should put some ‘feelers’ out to test the waters and see if the place you completed your clinical work is accepting applicants. It may be that you are one of the lucky ones and need not go further than this. It is possible that the health facility where you did your clinical work will hire you straight out of school. This is an ideal situation, but should this not happen, here we will discuss a little about where you can search for Certified Nursing Assistant work.

CNAs find work in a variety of institutions and organizations. Hospitals, doctor’s offices and nursing homes for the aged are perhaps some of the most well-known places to search for CNA work. Other locations for work can also be found in some of the not so well known areas such as private care in patients’ homes, consulting for insurance companies, and in school nurse’s office. Some larger corporate white collar and blue collar non-medical companies will also hire people for a medical office to support their staff. A CNA can sometimes be found working in this capacity as well. Other options for CNAs could include some type of consulting online or even teaching.

When you begin your CNA job search, the point is to keep an open mind about the type of places you could end up working. You may picture yourself working in a hospital setting, but quite possibly you may end up with a well-paying and satisfying job as a CNA in a non-traditional atmosphere. Put out lots of ‘feelers’ to friends and family as well. Besides looking for CNA work online and in newspapers, sometimes you may end up finding a job by word-of-mouth. So keep an open mind and all your options open and you will end up with an equally satisfying and rewarding career as a CNA nurse.
