To them, their little corner desk, occupying only a tiny amount of space, is the direct connection to all who have preceded them.
On the other hand, and certainly not meant as any sort of condemnation, the person who is unconcerned with and feels no connection to this linkage, is looking at the corner desk in terms of how it shows up and fills the need they require of it. The contrast is truly distinct and glaring, but there are no heroes or villains in this script, no right and wrong. The exact same piece of furniture, in this case the corner desk, can and will evoke these feelings and emotions. The person, who is able to approach the situation with a totally open mind and heart, can truly understand and appreciate the thoughts and feelings of all parties involved.
