When you are choosing a monster truck in the RC world to be your first radio controlled vehicle then it can be very confusing to try and sift through all of the technical words and acronyms, especially if you are new to the RC world. Technically, it is almost up there with the real world, with RC fans needing to understand simple drivetrains, slip differentials, pinion gears, and other mechanical parts that compose of a RC trucks engine system.

But what if all you want to do is to go to the shop, buy a product, and then take it out to your back garden for a quick race? For people who don’t want to get too much into the technical side of things there are RTR kits, which are termed Ready to Run, which simply means that all you have to do it take the unit out of the box and connect the battery and you can drive away to your heart’s content.

One thing that you will have to decide if you wish to pursue these RTR kits is to decide upon a cheaper but slower brushed model or a fast brushless model that will most likely cost at least double the price. Brushless models do last much longer though, so even though the initial price may be cheaper after many months of use it can actually be more cost effective to go for a brushless model in the first place.

Model wise, you have your Traxxas Stampede, Traxxas Rustler, Traxxas Slash, and so on, and there are many more from other RC vehicle makers. Traxxas is a good company to start out on since there are so many of their products out there in the wild. Out of all of their products, the Traxxas Stampede is the one that is most often recommended to beginners simply because they are so good for the price.
