Most of us have many valuable possessions that need to be kept safe. It could be some important documents, your precious jewelry, passports, policy papers or sometimes a weapon meant for personal protection. All these need to be protected and kept out of reach of children. One of the best ways to keep them safe is to use a fireproof wall safe. There are many advantages of using a fireproof safe.

The most important advantage of using this is that you don’t have to use a banker’s safe deposit locker. You can keep your valuables at home itself. You can access your important papers whenever you want and don’t have to keep going to the bank for this often. You can save a lot of time by keeping them safely at home and accessing them immediately when you need them.

There are two types of these wall safes. One is the concealed type which is designed to fit inside the wall and no will easily make out that there is a safe in there. They are fireproof also. The second type is the normal wall mounted safe. When you buy such safes you need to make sure that they are fireproof and how long they can withstand fire. A fire rating system will give you this information.

Apart from protecting your valuables you need to ensure that your doors and windows are properly secured so that no intruders can get in. You can install security alarms near the doors and security screen doors, apart from locking them properly. If you have sash windows at home then you can consider using the sash window locks for them. Window sash locks are a way of providing improved safety to your home. Having a sash window lock installed on your window will not allow the opening of the window from outside. A digital door lock is another option. It is one of the best ways to keep your home safe from burglars who will try to break in through a window.

Emergency Preparedness for Your Home

Emergency preparedness is something everyone should make sure they have before a disaster hits.  Most people don’t expect it will happen to them, but it is a statistical fact that a great majority of people will live through a disaster at some point in their lives.

Of course you want to have the standard items like clean water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene.  Experts used to say that you needed at least 3 weeks of supplies, but now they are saying you should have at least 30 days to be safe.

You also want to think about security.  You should have a weapon around just in case there is a major disaster and the police and other security forces are preoccupied.  You need a way to protect your home, your family and your supplies.  If you have supplies, there will be people that might do you harm to get them.

You also need something to cook with.  A great thing to have that is relatively cheap is a portable gas stove.  They generally run on butane or propane.  Camping stores and general supply stores like Walmart also carry these.  Not only can you use it for camping, it’s a great way to cook food in the event of a power outage.  Even if you have a gas stove, it might not be safe to use it in a disaster.

Another thing that would be very helpful portable car jump starter to use as an emergency power device.  Why a car jump starter?  Well, of course it would be great to have in case of your battery going out.  But many jump starters also come with the ability to power electronic items.  Some of DC, some have AC and some have both.  Whatever the case may be, it’s a great way to power up your communications devices like cell phones and radios.

Food and water is always the standard items that everyone is familiar with.  I just thought I’d throw out some items that people don’t often think about.

Tips for Choosing the Best Gun Safes

Anyone who wants to be a responsible gun owner knows that investing in one of the best gun safes is equally as important as selecting the right gun. The best gun safes not only keep children away from the firearms located in a household, they can also protect any guns stored in a house from being stolen if the house is broken into and robbed of valuables. When searching the marketplace for the best gun safes, it’s important to take several things into consideration so that the model you purchase will provide you with the safety and protection you need to properly store your firearms.

Heavy Duty Gun Safes

The best gun safes are those units, which can be bolted directly into the floor. This is an important feature because many thieves come prepared with dollies and other devices to assist them in carrying unbolted gun safes out of the house so they can work on cracking them open later. If your gun safe is bolted down, thieves won’t be able to move it much less carry it away with them. The best gun safes also feature a UL combination lock rather than a lock that is opened by a key. Key locks can be picked open or your hiding place for the key might be discovered. But a combination lock gives you the highest level of security for your gun safe.

The best gun safe also features at least 12 gauge steel thickness to prevent break-in attempts. They also feature at least 7 bolts, three on each side of the door and one on top. Bolt size should be at least one inch in diameter. Other safety features offered by the best gun safes include interior rather than exterior placement of hinges, recessed doors with a handle that disguises how the door swings, drill defectors and positive locking systems. The best gun safes also come with a warranty that includes repair or replacement should the safe be broken into.
